Who are the TwoBlackTravelers?

Of course there are more than two black travelers. There are a ton of us out there filling our knowledge cups with cultural experiences outside of the US.  On this page, you’ll meet the brains behind this travel inspiration site and learn more about why we created this blog to support other black travelers who feel like they are all alone out there.

Meet Demetha. I am a country girl from rural Mississippi who started traveling after graduating from college.  Like most in my rural community, I never dreamed of visiting another country until I did.  Since then, I’ve not stopped and can count some 50+ countries (many of them more than once) on my travel log.

Travel quickly became a passion and I’ve since spent years trying to nurture my curiosity about people and cultures  of every kind.   Traveling isn’t always easy and there are a few places that have earned a spot on my “do not return, unless…” list.

I must admit, I was fortunate enough to land some great corporate jobs that required a percent of travel in my responsibilities.   Selfishly, I would extend trips where I could and make the most of the few hours (or days) to explore.

I’ve learned so much but there is just so much to learn.  Everyday is a school day and I am loving the lessons.  My hope is to share enough of those lessons to help others get out there and explore.

Meet Shawn.  I am a former combat soldier with the 101st Airborne of the US Army turned culinary warrior.  My love for travel began in the US Military while being deployed to Germany, I was astounded by the beauty of the country and the hospitality of the people.

I became a chef after leaving the military and started to lean into my fascination with food and wine.  As a private chef, being knowledgeable about the culinary techniques from every region of the world is critical.  So travel became a way to expand my knowledge and hone my skills.

Fast forward some 20 years later and travel has become a way of life.  Exploring the food scene and tasting the local flavors has helped to expand my palate.  There is no better way to learn than sitting with a grower or popping into a hidden gem of a restaurant that can’t be found in the typical travel guide.

I’ve explored some of the best restaurants and top wineries in the world, and I am here to help you do the same.
